Aganetha Dyck & Gathie Falk

Aganetha Dyck & Gathie Falk           November 30 - December 29, 2007

Born in Winnipeg in 1937, Aganetha Dyck has shown her work extensively in over 30 solo exhibitions in Canada and internationally since 1975.  Perhaps best known for her collaborative work with live honeybees, Dyck’s most recent practice has concentrated on placing ordinary household objects in beehives.

This exhibition focuses on new bee work and the idea of “The Queen Bee”.  Beautiful porcelain figurines, diamond tiaras and Barbie dolls have spent the last few years in the hives.  The objects are delicate yet powerful, extremely inventive and uniquely Aganetha.

Vancouver artist, Gathie Falk has enjoyed a career as a visual and performing artist and sculptor for over 37 years. Similar to Dyck, Falk’s subjects are the objects and activities of everyday life: fruit, eggs, men’s shoes, women’s clothing and garden flowers. Falk is best known for her Paper Mache work.  Baseball hats and supporting watercolours will be featured in the exhibition.

Both artists are recipients of the Governor General’s Award in Visual Arts:  Gathie Falk in 2003 ad Aganetha Dyck in 2007.
