Betty Goodwin is best known for her Swimmers, a series of mixed media drawings that explored the human form. Looking back on her images of solitary, floating figures, suspended in space, Goodwin commented on their ambiguity: “In the Swimmers, there was always the dual side of swimming. How we can’t do without water. Water is our life, but it can take you away also.”
