John Brown‘s head paintings were his longest running series. Known as “Grimm”, they were inspired by the folk tales of the Brothers Grimm. Meticulously painted, “Grimm #84”, emerges organically through Brown’s application and removal of layers of paint on panel, his expressive scrapes, both hiding and revealing the mysterious image.
